The Information Security Specialist is responsible for the development, execution, and provision of advanced support for the organization's IT infrastructure. This role involves assisting in the design, implementation, and ongoing management (including forensic analysis) of security-related systems. The primary objective is to safeguard data, systems, and facilities, ensuring the protection, confidentiality, and integrity of the organization in alignment with established policies and standards. The Specialist will also contribute to the formulation of security awareness and training programs.

Core Responsibilities:

The individual will be accountable for advanced support and engineering of the organization's security systems. Critical analysis of processes and procedures is expected, along with recommendations for enhancements. Interaction with internal stakeholders and technical teams will be a regular part of the role. Occasional travel may be required to deliver information security services and participate in audits, assessments, and forensic investigations.

Additional Duties Include:

  • Design, implement, and maintain solutions deemed necessary for the safeguarding of organizational assets.
  • Contribute to the creation, documentation, and review of information security policies and procedures.
  • Utilize a comprehensive security toolkit (SIEM, network sniffers, IDS, vulnerability scanners, etc.) to identify issues and assess compliance with existing policies and procedures.
  • Prepare reports for the Information Security Manager.
  • Manage the organization's security-related information repositories (web, database, SharePoint).
  • Oversee and report on adherence to the organization's information security policies and procedures.
  • Monitor internal control systems to ensure appropriate information access levels and security clearances are upheld.
  • Conduct formal and informal security risk assessments based on insights gained from daily analysis and review.
  • Notify management of compliance failures for prompt remediation.
  • Engage in defining the organization's IT disaster recovery and continuity strategies for information systems.
  • Act as an internal information security advisor to the Security Team by keeping abreast of information security technologies and trends.
  • Serve as an advanced support resource for ticket resolution and change management activities.
  • Analyze, recommend, and implement controls as deemed necessary by the Security Manager.
  • Support standard organizational desktops and notebooks, as well as server-based hardware and software related to security applications and utilities. Utilize remote control and access software in the execution of duties.
  • Employ standard security tools such as SIEM, endpoint/network protection technologies, DLP, two-factor authentication, vulnerability scanners, custom scripts, and packet analyzers.
  • Capable of lifting 40 pounds of materials or equipment without assistance as required.

Knowledge and Skills Required:

  • Comprehensive understanding of security principles and best practices.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Access, and Word.
  • Experience with Wide Area and Local Area Networks.
  • In-depth knowledge of data communications and information systems hardware and software.
  • Strong grasp of principles, theories, techniques, and methods of information system analysis and programming, particularly secure coding practices.
  • Thorough understanding of data processing and communications concepts and services.
  • Extensive knowledge of computer monitoring systems, vendor-supplied packaged programs, macros, utilities, and other highly technical applications.
  • Ability to gather and analyze information, draw conclusions, define problems, and propose solutions.
  • Capacity to adapt, integrate, and modify existing programs or vendor-supplied packages for compatibility with current information systems.
  • Ability to assist in the preparation of training and informational sessions.
  • Proficiency in both oral and written English.
  • Ability to maintain productivity and focus without direct supervision.
