Principal Highway Design Lead

We are seeking an experienced and ambitious Highway Design Lead to join our team at Fairhurst. As a key member of our design team, you will be responsible for managing and reviewing the preparation of designs, drawings, and reports for highway and infrastructure projects.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage and review the preparation of designs, drawings, and reports for highway and infrastructure proposals
  • Undertake feasibility and pre-planning assessments of engineering infrastructure
  • Liaise with clients, regulators, and other stakeholders to ensure successful project delivery
  • Manage and mentor engineers and technicians, reviewing technical outputs and providing guidance on design and project management
  • Project management, team management, and budgetary control to ensure projects are delivered on time and within budget
  • Business development through client liaison, networking, and preparation of bids and proposals to secure new business opportunities
Requirements
  • Civil Engineering degree/HND educated in a relevant discipline
  • Chartered or working towards chartered status with a recognized professional institution (e.g. ICE or IHE or CIHT)
  • Excellent knowledge of infrastructure design at concept, feasibility, and preliminary levels
  • Good knowledge of relevant policy and design standards (e.g. DMRB, Sewers for Adoption)
  • Experience in the design and supervision of adopted drainage and highways
  • Experience of NEC3 contracts and complying with Designer Duties under CDM
  • Competent in the use of AutoCAD, PDS/3D Civils, and WinDes Microdrainage
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
