About the Role

The Newborn Hearing Screening team is responsible for conducting hearing screens on all eligible babies within a national timeframe. The purpose of the hearing screen is to identify any babies requiring further testing and ensure they are seen and assessed appropriately.

Key Responsibilities
  • Identify eligible babies for screening
  • Gain informed consent from parents or carers
  • Use specialist equipment to conduct hearing screens
  • Upload data and report results on a national database
  • Work independently under the Deputy and Local Managers for Newborn Hearing Screening
Training and Development

If you are not already qualified as a Newborn Hearing Screener, you will be offered full training. On successful completion of your hearing screener training, you will be required to undertake the Level 3 Diploma in Health Screening, which can take up to 18 months to complete.

This diploma is a comprehensive program that covers a range of topics, including health screening, data management, and communication skills. You will be expected to undertake a significant amount of computer-based work, as well as self-directed study and ongoing assessments.
