Job Summary

The role of Second Chef at Barchester Healthcare involves delivering exceptional culinary standards in a fast-paced kitchen environment. As a key member of the culinary team, you will assist the Head Chef in creating innovative, nutritious, and visually appealing menus that cater to the diverse needs of our residents. With a focus on quality, safety, and customer satisfaction, you will work closely with the kitchen team to maintain high standards of food preparation, presentation, and service.

Main Responsibilities
  • Assist the Head Chef in menu planning, development, and implementation
  • Manage kitchen operations in the Head Chef's absence, ensuring seamless service delivery
  • Collaborate with the kitchen team to maintain high standards of food quality, safety, and presentation
  • Work with fresh, seasonal produce to create innovative and appetizing dishes
  • Develop and maintain a warm, efficient, and fun kitchen environment that promotes teamwork and collaboration
  • Manage kitchen budgets, inventory, and supplies to ensure efficient use of resources
  • Conduct regular audits to ensure compliance with food safety and quality standards

Person Specification
  • City & Guilds, NVQ, or SVQ qualification in culinary arts or equivalent
  • Good understanding of HACCP principles and food safety protocols
  • Experience working in a fast-paced kitchen environment, with a focus on quality, safety, and customer satisfaction
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team, with a focus on maintaining high standards of food quality and presentation
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage with residents, colleagues, and other stakeholders
