Position Overview

We are looking for a committed legal expert to become a part of our welcoming Community Care and Court of Protection team. Reporting directly to the Senior Associate, you will handle a varied caseload of privately paying clients while mentoring junior legal professionals and aiding in the advancement of our specialized legal practice. As a founding member of the Professional Deputy Forum and a recognized authority in legal directories, our team provides expert, comprehensive guidance in Community Care/Public Law, Court of Protection Health and Welfare, and Special Educational Needs.

This position offers a clear trajectory for career advancement, including chances for business development, within a supportive and esteemed team environment.

Clientele

Our clients encompass a diverse range, including Boyes Turner's Court of Protection team and Professional Deputies across the country. Additionally, we engage with various private clients, including parents, young individuals with capacity, families, lay attorneys, lay deputies, professional trustees, case managers, litigators, and charitable organizations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Overseeing a mixed caseload of Community Care and Court of Protection cases under the guidance of senior legal professionals. Depending on your legal background, there may be opportunities to engage with Special Educational Needs cases.
  • Supporting marketing initiatives and business development efforts.
  • Assisting the Court of Protection Property & Affairs team with Community Care/Public Law and Court of Protection matters.
  • Managing new inquiries from lay clients and Professional Deputies, including responding to quotation requests.
  • Drafting a variety of complex legal documents such as advice letters, grounds of appeal, formal complaints, instructions to experts and counsel, court forms and applications, position statements, and witness statements.
  • Participating in advocacy at needs assessments, dispute resolution meetings, statutory appeals, and court or tribunal hearings.
  • Coordinating with clients, experts, public entities, counsel, and the Court.
  • Supervising the preparation of bundles by junior legal professionals and support staff.
  • Providing training and oversight to junior legal professionals and support staff as necessary.
  • Ensuring that all work is maintained at a high standard to uphold the firm's reputation.
  • Assisting with the management of fee estimates, invoicing, and accounting processes.

Essential Qualifications

  • Experience in Community Care/Public Law and Court of Protection Health & Welfare.
  • Ability to independently manage a diverse caseload of privately paying clients under the supervision of senior legal professionals.
  • Capability to work effectively within a team environment.
  • Strong client care and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication abilities.
  • Proficient IT skills with a solid understanding of Microsoft Office, including Excel.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in Court of Protection Property & Affairs.
  • Knowledge of Special Educational Needs law.
  • Advocacy experience (e.g., NHS Continuing Healthcare appeals, round-table/ADR meetings).
  • Experience in training and supervising junior legal professionals and support staff.
