Position Overview
The Children's Emergency Care Nurse will be accountable to the Matron and the Trust, playing a vital role in the provision and enhancement of services within the Emergency Department and the Medical Division. This position entails a 24-hour commitment to effectively manage and lead the clinical nursing team in collaboration with various stakeholders. The individual in this role will serve as a role model, delivering direct clinical care consistently. A valid registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council is required, along with adherence to standards set forth by UK law, the NMC, Trust, and EU regulations. The Children's Emergency Care Nurse will report to the Matron, ensuring that a safe workforce and staff development initiatives are in place to meet quality, safety, financial, and workforce objectives, while being professionally accountable to the Divisional Director for Quality and Nursing for Medicine.
Key Responsibilities
1. Serve as a prominent, approachable, and influential presence for staff, patients, families, and caregivers, ensuring that essential care is delivered efficiently and effectively.
2. Provide professional guidance to nurses, midwives, and students, acting as a role model within the department, medical division, and the Trust, ensuring that both managerial and clinical competencies are developed and maintained.
3. Take the lead on patient flow management, coordinating admissions and transfers to and from the Unit to optimize patient care.
4. Assure the Chief Nurse and Divisional Director for Quality and Nursing of ongoing improvements in clinical service delivery tailored to patient needs.
5. Offer clear clinical leadership for nursing, working collaboratively as part of the Emergency Department team to uphold, assess, and enhance standards.
6. Act as a deputy for the Senior Sister when necessary.
7. Foster the development of nursing skills across all aspects of the role, providing expert clinical knowledge and specialized guidance.
8. Lead nursing practices, establish and uphold professional nursing standards, and provide professional nursing advice and direction to the team.

Safeguard and enhance the Trust's esteemed reputation by reporting any investigations and resolutions related to patient complaints to the Matron.

Qualifications
Essential
- Active registration with the NMC or HCPC in the United Kingdom
- Recognized Degree/Diploma in Nursing
- Paediatric Immediate Life Support certification
Desirable
- Advanced Paediatric Life Support or European Paediatric Advanced Life Support certification
- Experience in managing minor injuries and illnesses
Experience
Essential
- Experience working in an acute clinical environment
- Enhanced knowledge and experience as a Senior Staff Nurse
- Familiarity with essential Emergency Department areas, including Resus, Triage, and Ambulance handover
