Job Title: Highways Network Engineer Apprentice

Location: Manchester, Birmingham, Reading

Job Type: Apprenticeship

Qualification: Level 4, Network Engineer

Starting Salary: £18,000

Duration: 24 months

About the Role

This apprenticeship programme is designed to provide individuals with the skills and knowledge required to become a qualified Network Engineer. As a Field Network Engineer Apprentice, you will work on the full Strategic Road network, maintaining roadside cabinets, cable and termination, and testing equipment on fibre and copper cable networks.

You will also have the opportunity to work on the nationwide communications network that connects all this equipment together. The role involves rotating across different teams, building an understanding of how each team cooperates to produce the end goal.

Responsibilities
  1. Maintain roadside cabinets, cable and termination, and testing equipment on fibre and copper cable networks.
  2. Work with Optical Fibre, including cable preparation, splicing, OTDR testing, and interpreting results.
  3. Understand and learn about IP routers and networks.
  4. Support and learn how to test, repair, replace, and reconfigure the latest Telecoms equipment.
  5. Ensure all work is carried out in accordance with Telent Environmental, Health and Safety processes and policies.
  6. Familiarize yourself with project and client requirements.
Requirements

We are looking for individuals with a strong passion for technology and a willingness to learn. The ideal candidate will have a Level 3 (or equivalent) IT-related qualification and a full UK driving license. You must be over the age of 18 by January 2025 and able to adhere to our Drugs & Alcohol policy.
