Lead Clinical Psychologist in Therapeutic Community

Maidstone, Kent, United Kingdom Kent and Medway NHS & Social Care Partnership Trust Full time

Position Overview

We are seeking a highly qualified and experienced Psychotherapist or Clinical Psychologist to become a vital part of our Therapeutic Community team, specializing in the treatment of adults facing intricate emotional challenges. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in analytical training and demonstrate proficiency in facilitating therapeutic groups for individuals with severe emotional needs. Experience within a therapeutic community or a trauma-focused therapy group model is highly desirable.

The Brenchley Unit is a recognized therapeutic community, accredited by the Community of Communities under the Royal College of Psychiatrists. Our service has received accolades, including a Highly Commended status in the National Positive Practice in Mental Health Awards. We actively participate in peer reviews and are engaged members of The Consortium of Therapeutic Communities, frequently sharing our insights at various conferences. Our commitment to enhancing our practice includes integrating Mentalization-Based Therapy (MBT) and Yoga for trauma, enriching our array of verbal and non-verbal therapeutic approaches such as psychodrama, art psychotherapy, and occupational therapy.

Key Responsibilities

In this role, you will be responsible for providing guidance on suitable referrals, offering supervision, and conducting case consultations. You will lead assessment and outpatient psychodynamic psychotherapy groups, serving as the initial treatment phase before clients integrate into the therapeutic community. Additionally, you will facilitate small group psychotherapy sessions and participate in community meetings. Opportunities for co-produced lecturing and training roles will also be available.

You will be dedicated to upholding the analytic framework of a democratic therapeutic community, ensuring our relational practice values and principles, including co-production and inclusivity, are maintained. Your ability to navigate transference processes and reflect on the complex dynamics within team and community interactions will be essential. You will manage a caseload of clients with multifaceted needs, often presenting significant risks, while ensuring that your workload is organized and quality standards are upheld. Furthermore, you will have the requisite experience and skills to support the clinical lead and assist in the daily operations of the service.

Benefits of Working with Us

You will be part of a multi-disciplinary service that offers a wealth of opportunities for innovative work. With a second therapeutic community located in Folkestone, collaboration between teams will foster shared learning experiences and collective service development. Continuous group clinical supervision and participation in a staff process group will be integral to your professional growth and support.
