Job Purpose

As a Design Manager on our Graduate Programme, you will play a key role in leading on all design matters relating to our projects. This will involve ensuring that all disciplines in our external and internal teams are working together effectively, identifying and appointing design consultants and sub-contractors, and managing progress throughout the design phase. You will also be responsible for reviewing designs for quality and compliance with contracts, and ensuring that designs are delivered on time and on budget.

Key Responsibilities

As a Design Manager on our Graduate Programme, you will have the opportunity to work in a variety of roles and gain a broad understanding of the construction industry. You will be allocated tasks, attend meetings with subcontractors, internal and external stakeholders, and gain experience in design management, project coordination, and team leadership. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Reviewing consultant's designs and ensuring they meet project requirements
  • Attending design team meetings and contributing to design development
  • Ordering samples for client review and ensuring timely delivery
  • Collating submissions for planning conditions and ensuring compliance with regulations
  • Responding to RFI's (Request for Information) and ensuring timely resolution
  • Supporting internal teams, including the commercial team, with preparation for Value Engineering (VE) proposals and subcontractor appointments

The Graduate Programme

Our two-year Graduate Programme is designed to provide you with a comprehensive understanding of the construction industry and equip you with the skills and knowledge needed to succeed in a design management role. You will have the opportunity to work on live projects, learn from our experts, and develop your skills in design management, project coordination, and team leadership. The programme will consist of rotations covering areas such as pre-construction, winning work, planning, design, technical building services, construction management, and commercial management. You will also have the opportunity to gain exposure to additional areas, such as Health & Safety and sustainability, and develop your skills in these areas.

Candidate Profile and Entry Criteria

To be considered for our Design Manager Graduate Programme, you will need to have a minimum 2:2 degree and a passion for the construction industry. You will also need to have a strong attention to detail, organisational skills, and the ability to use your own initiative. You will need to be confident in managing and interacting with internal and external stakeholders, and have good time-keeping skills. You will also need to be willing to get stuck in and take on new challenges.
