About the RoleWe are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Advanced Specialist Speech and Language Therapist to join our team at the Royal Hospital for Neuro-disability. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing a highly specialist speech and language therapy service to adults with complex neuro-disability and neuro-rehabilitation needs.
The post holder will work within a multi-disciplinary team and have the opportunity to develop excellent knowledge and skills in:
- Assessment and management of communication impairments in adults with complex neuro-disability, including people with brain injury and those with progressive neurological conditions.
- Assessment and management of complex acquired dysphagia
- Assessment and management of people in a Prolonged Disorder of Consciousness
- Long term tracheostomy management and weaning, plus working with ventilated patients
The Royal Hospital for Neuro-disability is a leading national centre of excellence, providing adult person-centred services that span the entire care pathway from post-acute rehabilitation services to end of life care, for people with complex Neuro-disability and their families, underpinned by a strong research and education programme.
Key ResponsibilitiesThe post holder will be responsible for:
- Providing a flexible and prioritised autonomous highly specialist SLT service in the clinical specialisms, targeting intervention and education where needed.
- Working as part of an integrated multidisciplinary team, contributing to patient care plans and goal setting as appropriate.
- Demonstrating highly specialist knowledge and skills in relevant clinical specialisms underpinned by current evidence based practice and outcome measures and to use this knowledge to continue to develop and improve service provision in liaison with the Professional Lead for SLT, Therapy Manager and Head of Service.
- Communicating complex condition related information from assessment to patients, carers, families and members of the multi-disciplinary team/other professions via attendance at multidisciplinary meetings, rehabilitation goal setting meetings and case conferences as required to enable a coordinated care.
- Providing supervision to more junior SLTs, SLT assistants and SLT students as well as providing advice and support to health care staff, SLT Technical Instructors and
- Leading service development projects within the speech and language and multidisciplinary teams.
- Demonstrating an awareness of RHN's objectives and contribute to achieving them appropriately.
- Striving to improve efficiency in all areas of your work.
The post holder will continue to develop areas of specialism while in post.
RequirementsThe post holder will be expected to have:
- Highly specialist knowledge and skills in relevant clinical specialisms underpinned by current evidence based practice and outcome measures.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work autonomously and as part of a team.
- Ability to prioritize and manage a complex caseload.
- Ability to work with adults with complex neuro-disability and neuro-rehabilitation needs.
