Main Duties and Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for making a significant contribution to the leadership of research in the department, including gaining research funding awards as Principal Investigator, developing the research environment in the department and across the University, and publishing in peer-reviewed journal articles and other internationally excellent or world-leading publications in education.

Key Responsibilities
  • Contribute to the development of, and supervise and teach on, doctoral programmes in one or more of the following subject areas of Materials Science/Engineering:
  • Advanced Materials and Advanced Materials Processing
  • Materials for extreme environments
  • Strategic Materials
  • Materials recycling and life-cycle analysis (LCA)
  • Aperiodic lattice structures
  • Additive Manufacturing
Requirements
  • A professional track record in Materials Science / Engineering
  • Expertise and experience of teaching and assessing modules in the following Materials Science / Engineering subject areas:
  • Materials properties (strength, creep, fatigue, corrosion, etc.)
  • Strengthening mechanisms
  • Materials processing (forming and joining processes)
  • Automotive and Aerospace Materials
Qualifications
  • First Degree and a PhD or equivalents in an appropriate area of Materials Science / Engineering or an equivalent, relevant postgraduate professional qualification, plus Fellowship of Advance HE
