Clinical Pharmacy Practitioner

Hull, Kingston upon Hull, United Kingdom Hull University Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust Full time

Position Overview

Are you a newly registered Pharmacist eager to embark on a career in hospital pharmacy? If you are seeking a role that offers extensive clinical training within a prominent acute teaching hospital, while also providing a pathway to advance to a Band 7 position, then Hull University Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust may be the ideal environment for you to enhance your professional skills and advance your career.

We encourage applications from trainee pharmacists who anticipate joining the register in the near future.

Successful candidates will benefit from a comprehensive program designed to facilitate progression from a Band 6 post-registration pharmacist to a Band 7 clinical pharmacist, contingent upon the completion of specified training requirements and the submission of a professional portfolio. This program also includes the opportunity to pursue a prescribing qualification, enabling you to practice as a non-medical prescriber.

The Pharmacy team is driven and dedicated, prioritizing patient welfare and consistently striving to enhance the services we provide. Our team comprises a diverse range of professionals, from specialist rotational pharmacists to consultant pharmacists, all contributing to a rich learning experience. Key initiatives currently underway include:

  • Expansion of pharmacist prescribing capabilities
  • Innovative approaches to ensure safe and effective patient discharge
  • Implementation of electronic prescribing systems

Main Responsibilities

As a post-registration pharmacist, you will be assigned dedicated mentors who will guide you throughout your professional journey.

You will receive support to engage in a thorough foundational training program, which includes pursuing the Diploma in Clinical Pharmacy Practice at a recognized institution, alongside in-house supervision and mentorship.

This role is designed for progression; upon fulfilling specific training criteria (currently the first year of the Diploma) and successfully submitting a portfolio of evidence, you will advance to a Band 7 clinical pharmacist role, participating in specialized rotations and obtaining your prescribing qualification.

Post-registration pharmacists deliver clinical pharmacy services to designated wards, providing guidance to medical staff, nursing teams, and patients regarding the safe and effective use of medications. This encompasses facilitating medication reconciliation, discharge planning, and patient counseling. The team includes a variety of qualified personnel, such as technicians who will assist you in your daily responsibilities, as well as support staff and apprentices who contribute additional assistance to wards and patients.

Applicants must be registered pharmacists or trainee pharmacists eligible for registration prior to commencing the role.

This position requires weekend and bank holiday availability, and participation in the on-call service is expected.
