Position Overview
An exceptional opportunity has emerged within the Patient Catering division at Leeds Teaching Hospitals for a Catering Operations Supervisor dedicated to enhancing the Patient catering service. Our service is recognized among the top 10 trusts in the country, and we aim to elevate our standards even further.
The successful candidate will oversee a team of 26 personnel responsible for preparing a variety of meal options, including salads, sandwiches, and desserts, as well as managing the procurement and distribution of various meal items, including ambient, chilled, and frozen products. Additionally, the role will involve the innovation of new homemade meal selections.
This is a full-time position, operating on a two-week rotating shift schedule that includes various shifts, with alternate weekends required.
Please note that this role is not customer-facing and is situated within a chilled production environment, with temperatures ranging from 5-10°C and occasional exposure to freezing conditions.
Key Responsibilities
The primary responsibilities of this role include:
- Directly managing Patient Catering Staff on daily operational issues, including scheduling, performance evaluations, and attendance management.
- Ensuring compliance with food safety regulations at the Receipt and Distribution Unit.
- Actively participating in the ongoing enhancement of the catering service and patient menu development.
- Identifying opportunities to improve service efficiency and product quality.
- Timely procurement of supplies based on historical data and immediate service requirements.
We are looking for a candidate who can inspire and engage staff to deliver a high-quality patient catering service. This includes providing training, coaching, and mentoring, as well as evaluating local processes to enhance the patient experience.

Essential Qualifications
- Level 3 Team Leadership/Management (or the ability to obtain within six months).
- A professional catering qualification.
- Level 3 Food Hygiene (or the ability to obtain within six months).
Desirable Qualifications
- Health and Safety or HACCP Level 3 qualification.
