UKTV is seeking a highly skilled Director of Business and Legal Affairs - Commercial to lead the Business and Legal Affairs - Commercial team. This role requires a comprehensive understanding of legal areas impacting the business, including regulatory landscape, IP law, consumer law, and data protection.

About the Role
  • Lead the Business and Legal Affairs - Commercial team, providing strategic guidance and support to the Commercial, Digital, Technology, and Operations teams.
  • Advise on complex programming and channels sales agreements, technology, operations, and digital distribution agreements.
  • Negotiate and contract complex agreements, including M&A transactions and implementing strategic objectives.
  • Advise on consumer law and data protection issues, with a focus on D2C video services.
  • Build trusted relationships with senior stakeholders and influence at senior management level.
Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and manage a team of high-performing lawyers responsible for all commercial (non-content) contracts at UKTV.
  • Advise on consumer law aspects of operating a D2C VOD service, including data protection.
  • Carry out legal risk assessment and implement measures to minimize UKTV's exposure to legal risk.
  • Manage policy, process, and template documents, working closely with stakeholders across the business.
  • Act as a lead to the business in all relevant fields of law and industry, ensuring the business is kept updated on all relevant regulatory developments.
Requirements
  • Extensive experience of advising on and negotiating complex agreements.
  • Experience of leading and delivering complex projects/deals, including M&A transactions.
  • Comprehensive understanding of legal areas impacting the business, including regulatory landscape.
  • Knowledge of IP law, consumer law, and data protection.
  • Strong commercial judgment and ability to build trusted relationships with senior stakeholders.
