About the Role

We are seeking a highly motivated and analytical Trainee Underwriter to join our Service Delivery Underwriting teams in the UK. As a Trainee Underwriter, you will play a critical role in delivering superb service to our customers and driving profitable growth for Hiscox UK.

Key Responsibilities
  • Underwrite new and existing business across our commercial products, ensuring high standards are met.
  • Work towards set targets, including profitability, GWP, conversion, retention, cross-sell, referral rate reduction, quotes per day, turnaround times, workflow management, phone service, and prospecting.
  • Develop sales skills and appreciation of sales and underwriting strategy in collaboration with the wider teams and regions.
  • Effectively negotiate with internal and external parties and identify points of contact within brokers.
  • Challenge non-standard underwriting decisions, leveraging the expertise of product specialists and senior members of the team.
  • Show courage and innovation by spotting process improvements and how we can do things differently to improve the customer experience and drive profitable growth.
Requirements
  • Experience working in an insurer, within an underwriting environment, and a desire to build a career in underwriting.
  • A strong team player capable of taking ownership and driving results.
  • An analytical mind, proactive in thought process, and the ability to back up decisions.
  • A natural flair for building relationships, enabling you to develop close rapport with brokers, clients, and colleagues.
  • Ability to be an ambassador of Hiscox and demonstrate 'going the extra mile' dedication and commitment in a fast-growing and demanding area of the business.
  • Self-motivated with a strong determination to learn, achieve results, and succeed.
  • Willingness to begin ACII qualification.
