Mechanical Plant Engineer

Job Summary
We are seeking a highly skilled Mechanical Plant Engineer to join our team at the National Nuclear Laboratory. As a Mechanical Plant Engineer, you will play a critical role in ensuring the safe and compliant operation of our mechanical systems.
Main Responsibilities
- Ensure compliance with relevant engineering procedures and regulations.
- Champion mechanical maintenance processes and ensure plant is operated and maintained to high standards.
- Collaborate with the design team on mechanical changes to plant, including reviewing design change packages and installation procedures.
- Review equipment parameters, trend analysis, and improvements to plant operations, incorporating industry best practices.
- Provide advice on ageing plant and conduct condition assessment techniques to support our Asset Care program.
- Lead small-scale infrastructure improvement projects.
- Conduct regular self-audits and task observations to ensure EHSS&Q standards are maintained.
- Attend forums to stay up-to-date with best practices and share learning with the team.
- Assist the Engineering Manager in delivering company values and developing solutions that benefit the business.
- Investigate events or incidents and ensure corrective actions are taken in a timely manner.
- Support the coaching and mentoring of the Engineering team.
Essential Criteria
- Degree-qualified in a mechanical discipline or equivalent experience.
- Strong communication skills and ability to interface with customers, suppliers, and stakeholders.
- Conservative decision-making skills, even in pressure situations.
- Demonstrable knowledge of operational and maintenance requirements.
- Self-motivation, drive, energy, and resilience.
- Ability to interface with Design and Capability teams.
- Requirement to become appointed as Safety Supervisor, Authorised Person Mechanical, and Senior Authorised Person Mechanical.
- Ability to obtain SC-level security clearance.
Desirable Criteria
- Hold IOSH Managing Safely or equivalent qualification.
- Awareness of nuclear, conventional safety, and security requirements.
- Supervisory experience in nuclear plant operations.
- Good general safety case awareness and knowledge of nuclear safety mechanisms.
- Ability to interface with Design and Capability teams.
- Ability to become Appointed Person Lifting.
