Polaris Children's Services operates within the Polaris Community and provides both statutory and non-statutory social care services across the UK and to military communities abroad.

Since its inception, the organization has delivered Social Work services to the Ministry of Defence in various international locations, expanding its reach to include military personnel, associated civilian staff, and their families in multiple countries.

Our services have grown to encompass regions including the South Atlantic Islands and Cyprus, with further expansions to include additional territories.

We are excited to announce an opportunity within the Polaris Children's Services, specifically in the British Forces Social Work team, for a Lead Social Care Practitioner to join our dedicated team.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Adhere to the Professional Standards for Social Work.
  • Exhibit expert and effective practice in complex scenarios, assessing and managing elevated levels of risk while balancing support and control.
  • Collaborate with a diverse range of professionals, including military personnel and partner agencies.
  • Provide consultation and short-term interventions for adults facing crises, including issues related to isolation and mental health.
  • Manage intricate caseloads, including Child Protection, Child in Need, and Early Help cases, while offering expert opinions and consultations.
  • Participate in Child in Need/Core Group meetings organized by local authorities and coordinate relevant meetings as necessary.
  • Deliver expert assessments and planning reports for child protection conferences and adult safeguarding meetings.
  • Engage as a member of various safeguarding boards and committees.

Qualifications:

  • A Professional Social Work qualification (BA (Hons), DIP SW, CQSW, CSS) and registration with Social Work England or an equivalent body.
  • Minimum of 3 years of Social Work experience, including complex assessments and case management.
  • Experience in risk assessment and safety planning.
  • Direct experience working with children, young people, or adults at risk.
  • Proficiency in delivering safeguarding training and presentations.
  • Completion of a Post Qualifying Award in Social Work.
  • Strong computer literacy and report writing skills.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of relevant legislation and safeguarding procedures.
  • Flexibility to work across various locations, including potential weekend and evening hours.
  • A valid driving license for manual vehicles.
