Job Description

As a Water Quality Scientist at Thames Water, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the safety and quality of drinking water for our customers. This is a challenging and rewarding position that requires a strong understanding of water quality regulations and risk management.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Regulatory Risk Assessments: Conduct thorough risk assessments for network depots to ensure compliance with Drinking Water Safety Plans (DWSP) obligations.
  • DWSP Updates: Update the company's bespoke DWSP IT system to meet regulatory requirements and internal programs.
  • Expertise Development: Develop expertise in water quality aspects of distribution water quality and regulatory requirements relating to DWSPs.
  • Risk Review: Participate in the Water Quality Risk Review process to validate existing DWSP risks and identify emerging ones, escalating significant risks within governance parameters.
  • System Management: Participate in routine system management activities for DWSP IT to ensure regulatory obligations can be met.
Requirements:
  • Education: Degree level (or equivalent) in a relevant scientific discipline.
  • Experience: Water industry experience in a relevant role.
  • Communication Skills: Good written and verbal communication skills and an ability to build positive relationships with stakeholders across the business.
  • Technical Skills: Competent in using Microsoft Office software and preferably with some experience using company systems e.g. DWSP IT, EQUIS, Sample Manager.
  • Attitude: Proactive, can-do attitude as this is key to success in the role.
  • Teamwork: Open-minded, supporting and developing new methods of working, and able to manage workloads.
What We Offer:
  • Competitive Salary: Up to £45,000 per annum depending on skills and experience.
  • Annual Leave: 26 days holiday per year increasing to 30 with the length of service. (Plus bank holidays)
