Position Overview

We are excited to present an opportunity for a Band 4 Nutritional Support Assistant Practitioner to become a vital member of our dedicated team.

The ideal candidate will exhibit confidence, professionalism, and enthusiasm, collaborating with the dietetic and multidisciplinary teams to assist patients facing various cardio-thoracic challenges.

We seek a highly motivated individual who can adapt to a fast-paced environment. Proficiency in spoken and written English, along with exceptional communication skills, is essential. You will engage with multidisciplinary teams throughout the organization, including the Catering Department and suppliers. A compassionate and empathetic approach is crucial, as we provide a supportive work atmosphere with in-house training and supervision to cultivate the necessary skills and knowledge for this role.

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will:

  1. Actively participate as a key member of the Cardiothoracic and Transplant Therapy Team, ensuring the delivery of a patient-focused service efficiently and cost-effectively.
  2. Assist in providing care to patients under the guidance and supervision of senior therapists.
  3. Conduct clinical tasks to support the therapy team dietitians, including dietary evaluations as delegated by qualified personnel, necessitating a broad range of technical skills and strong interpersonal abilities.
  4. Perform clinical assessments independently within the framework of the Assistant Practitioner competency.
  5. Play a crucial role in managing stable adult in-patients receiving oral nutritional support and those with food allergies, which includes initial assessments, ongoing monitoring, and coordinating discharge follow-ups with local healthcare providers.
  6. Oversee the management of dietary product distribution, including stock checks, manual handling, and liaising with the catering department and various nutritional product suppliers. Additionally, engage in health promotion education and audit activities across therapy services.
  7. Acquire and maintain the necessary knowledge and skills in relevant technical, clinical, and organizational procedures while working under the Assistant Practitioner Competency program with supervision from specialist therapy teams.

Qualifications and Experience

Essential:

  • Possess at least one of the following qualifications in a relevant field such as health, care, nutrition, or life sciences: Minimum of 5 GCSEs (including Maths and English) or equivalent NVQ at level 2/3, BTEC, or equivalent 'A' levels.
  • A minimum of two years of prior experience as a Dietetic Assistant in a healthcare environment.
  • Familiarity with the Malnutrition Universal Screening Tool (MUST) and a solid understanding of nutritional support and healthcare.
  • Competence in advising on oral nutritional support products and knowledge of food allergies.
  • Experience working collaboratively within a team.

Desirable:

  • Previous experience in delivering presentations to small groups.
  • Experience in conducting audits.

Skills and Abilities

Essential:

  • Outstanding communication skills, with the ability to effectively convey information verbally and in writing to a diverse audience.
  • Capability to work independently when appropriate.
  • Proficient IT skills.
