Job Overview:

The Publishing Director will be responsible for leading the publishing team and overseeing the overall strategy and direction of the company's publishing efforts. This is a key leadership role that requires a strong understanding of the publishing industry and the ability to drive growth and profitability.

Key Responsibilities:

• Overall management and leadership of the publishing team, including authors, editors, designers, and production staff

• Developing and executing publishing strategies to drive growth and profitability

• Managing the publishing process from start to finish, including liaising with authors, editors, designers, and production staff

• Ownership of the company's P&L, including strategy development, budgeting, forecasting, cost control, and sales opportunities

• Partnering with Sales, Marketing, Publicity, and Design teams to drive publishing efforts

• Ensuring day-to-day operations are running effectively, including cost management and meeting milestones

• Maintaining strong connections with authors, literary agents, and other industry partners

• Acquiring new titles and managing the publishing pipeline

Requirements:

• Excellent knowledge of the publishing industry and a track record of successful publishing

• Experience creating and managing strategy

• Strong leadership and influencing skills

• Clear and empathetic communication skills, with the ability to build strong relationships internally and externally

• Best-in-field structural editing and author care skills

• Proven experience negotiating complex deals

• Ambitious and entrepreneurial, with a desire to contribute to the success of Hachette UK
