Senior Property & Casualty Underwriter

Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Property & Casualty Underwriter to join our team at Stride Resource Management Ltd. As a Senior Underwriter, you will be responsible for managing and developing existing client accounts, identifying new business opportunities, and reviewing applications and financial requirements for risks requiring sophisticated underwriting skills.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with key intermediaries to manage and develop existing client accounts.
  • Utilize your extensive network of key contacts to identify new business opportunities and convert business in line with underwriting appetite.
  • Review applications and financial requirements for risks requiring sophisticated underwriting skills, determining acceptability of risk in accordance with company guidelines and standards.
  • Determine appropriate pricing based on financial and competitive analysis in line with compliance requirements.
  • Prepare quotations and answer questions from Brokers, policyholders, or other external contacts, escalating issues to management along with proposed solutions as necessary.
  • Negotiate with Brokers to reach positive and profitable outcomes.
  • Market products and services through the brokerage community and make field visits, developing and maintaining Broker relationships.
  • Provide guidance and assistance to other underwriters and to other functional areas, particularly when related to cross-sell opportunities.
  • Stay current on state/territory issues and regulations, industry activity, and trends, sharing information with others.
  • Work with more senior underwriters or management on risks exceeding authority level or requiring special handling.

Requirements

  • Strong knowledge and experience of commercial underwriting and insurance industry theories and practices.
  • Demonstrated high level of technical expertise and product-specific knowledge.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and negotiation skills, with the ability to effectively interact with all levels of external business partners.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong ability to identify, analyze, and solve problems, as well as the ability to learn rapidly, adapt quickly to change, and to manage and prioritize multiple concurrent projects.
  • Ability to exercise independent judgment and make critical business decisions effectively.
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and other business-related software.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills.
