Richard James Recruitment Specialists Ltd is representing a prominent Oil trading firm with a global footprint in physical assets. This organization is engaged in the sourcing, refining, marketing, and trading of Crude Oil, Oil products, and related financial derivatives.

In light of ongoing expansion within their asset portfolio, we are on the lookout for a seasoned Trade Finance Operations Manager to become a vital part of their dynamic Finance Team based in London, while also collaborating with teams in Switzerland and the United States.

The selected candidate will report directly to the Head of Structured Finance and will engage closely with all finance team members. The ideal applicant will possess 5-10 years of pertinent experience acquired in a Banking, Fund Finance Company, or Commodity Trading House environment.

Your primary responsibilities will include overseeing the operational management of the Trade Finance sector. The successful candidate will be tasked with executing working capital finance, structured trade finance, and receivables finance specifically within the oil and petroleum industries, while also addressing challenges and formulating solutions.

The role demands strong skills in operational management, structuring, credit analysis, risk evaluation, contract negotiation, legal documentation, and post-closing oversight. Exceptional communication abilities are essential, along with the capacity to perform effectively under pressure. The position also requires a meticulous approach to producing accurate work promptly, demonstrating keen attention to detail, and the ability to independently resolve issues.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Oversee daily operations of the group’s trade finance facilities.
  • Maintain and enhance existing financing lines with a focus on the Oil and Gas sector.
  • Manage the transaction lifecycle from contract initiation to drawdown.
  • Assist with credit limit requests and operational inquiries, as well as reporting liabilities to the Group.
  • Establish and nurture external relationships with financiers.
  • Collaborate with business units to understand their needs and develop alternative/structured financing solutions.
  • Typical structures include payables financing, receivables financing, hedging financing, inventory monetization, and term debt products.
  • Monitor, amend, and issue Guarantees and Letters of Credit.
  • Work alongside Treasury to accurately forecast cash inflows and outflows.
  • Assist in creating bank presentations and reports.
  • Provide ad hoc support on financing projects as required.

REQUIRED SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND EXPERIENCE:

  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in a multinational commercial environment within the commodity sector, particularly in the oil and gas industry.
  • Proven experience in managing relationships with banks and suppliers.
  • Essential knowledge of receivables and inventory financing.
  • Proficiency in Excel, Word, and Outlook.
  • Strong numerical, financial, research, and analytical skills.
  • IT skills including proficiency in Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint (SAP experience is a plus).
  • Ability to write reports and deliver presentations effectively.
  • A commercial and entrepreneurial mindset.
  • Willingness to travel as needed.
  • Strong influencing and negotiation skills.
  • Comprehensive understanding of letters of credit and proficiency in documentation related to contract execution, including shipping and banking documents.
  • Experience with a financial institution or a major Commodity Trading company, preferably in the oil and gas sector.
  • Familiarity with issues surrounding legal title and risk, storage and co-mingling of commodities, delivery points, oil refining processes, and implications of various legal jurisdictions. Knowledge of futures and OTC markets and hedging commodities (NYMEX, ICE, etc.) is advantageous, as is experience in working capital optimization and carbon certificate financing.
