Job Title: KS2 Teacher (Key Stage 2 Teacher)

Reports To: Headteacher / Deputy Headteacher

Location: Wakefield, WF4

Position Summary:

The KS2 Teacher is responsible for delivering high-quality education to students in Key Stage 2 (Years 3 to 6). The teacher will create a stimulating learning environment, plan and implement engaging lessons across a range of subjects, assess student progress, and work collaboratively with colleagues, parents, and the wider school community to support the holistic development of each child.

Key Responsibilities:

Curriculum Delivery:
  • Plan, prepare, and deliver lessons that are aligned with the National Curriculum for Key Stage 2, ensuring a broad and balanced educational experience.
  • Teach core subjects such as English, Mathematics, Science, and Humanities, as well as foundation subjects like Art, Physical Education, and Music.
  • Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse learning needs and abilities of all students, including those with special educational needs (SEN) and English as an Additional Language (EAL).
  • Incorporate a variety of teaching methods and resources, including technology, to engage students and enhance learning.
Assessment and Reporting:
  • Regularly assess students' progress through formative and summative assessments, ensuring that assessment data is used to inform teaching and learning.
  • Maintain accurate records of student achievement and use these to provide constructive feedback to students and parents.
  • Prepare and deliver reports on student progress, including end-of-term and end-of-year assessments, and attend parent-teacher meetings as required.
  • Identify and support students who are falling behind or exceeding expectations, providing additional challenge or intervention as necessary.
Classroom Management:
  • Establish and maintain a positive and inclusive classroom environment that promotes good behaviour, respect, and cooperation among students.
  • Implement the school's behaviour management policy, addressing any issues promptly and effectively.
  • Encourage a growth mindset and foster resilience, independence, and a love of learning in all students.
Pastoral Care:
  • Act as a role model for students, promoting values such as respect, responsibility, and kindness.
  • Monitor and support the social, emotional, and physical well-being of students, addressing any concerns in collaboration with relevant staff, such as the SENCO or school counsellor.
  • Build positive relationships with students, ensuring that each child feels valued and supported.
Collaboration and Professional Development:
  • Work closely with colleagues to plan and implement cross-curricular projects, school events, and extracurricular activities.
  • Participate in staff meetings, training sessions, and professional development opportunities to continually improve teaching practice.
  • Collaborate with support staff, including teaching assistants, to enhance student learning and well-being.
  • Communicate effectively with parents and carers, keeping them informed about their child's progress and any concerns.
School Involvement:
  • Contribute to the wider life of the school by participating in assemblies, school trips, and special events.
  • Support the school's ethos and values, contributing to a positive school culture.
  • Take on additional responsibilities as required, such as leading a subject area or participating in school committees.

Qualifications:

  • Education:
    • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) is required.
    • A degree in education or a related subject area is essential.

  • Skills and Abilities:
    • Strong knowledge of the National Curriculum for Key Stage 2.
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage and inspire students.
    • Effective classroom management skills and the ability to create a positive learning environment.
    • Strong organizational skills, with the ability to plan, assess, and record student progress effectively.
    • Adaptability and creativity in teaching approaches to meet the needs of all learners.
  • Experience:
    • Previous experience teaching Key Stage 2 students is preferred.
    • Experience working with children with diverse learning needs, including SEN and EAL, is advantageous.
    • A track record of contributing to the wider school community, such as leading extracurricular activities, is desirable.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
