Venesky-Brown's client, a public sector organization, is seeking to hire an AWS Platform Engineer for an initial contract period with the possibility of extension. This role offers a competitive daily rate and primarily allows for remote work, with occasional office attendance required.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with Product Teams to uphold best practices in the development, testing, deployment, and support of products on the AWS platform.
  • Design, construct, and maintain services that facilitate software delivery, emphasizing the AWS environment.
  • Develop and support libraries (often CDK constructs) and services that encapsulate and present platform functionalities.
  • Enhance the security of serverless functions.
  • Transition from on-premises solutions to cloud-based alternatives, ensuring compliance with governance and security standards.
  • Support the organization’s core platforms, including containerization, monitoring, and telemetry systems.
  • Foster an agile culture of continuous delivery and improvement, focusing on the frequent release of functional software.
  • Create and maintain comprehensive documentation, including technical assessments that effectively communicate the product's technical vision to the team and stakeholders.
  • Advocate for beneficial ideas, changes, and designs, influencing peers and key stakeholders as necessary.
  • Assist Product Managers and Technical Architects in prioritizing the backlog by providing insights into the architectural roadmap and the technical advantages of proposed changes.

Essential Skills:

  • Experience in designing and building platforms on AWS.
  • Proficiency in AWS Serverless technologies.
  • Familiarity with CI/CD methodologies and AWS native CI/CD tools.
  • Ability to define infrastructure and processes as code.
  • Capability to add value throughout the software lifecycle.
  • Experience with automated testing in AWS environments and build processes.
  • Introduction of efficient processes or concepts within the AWS ecosystem.
  • Collaboration with business units to understand context and deliver value.
  • Experience in Agile delivery models, such as Scrum or Kanban.
  • Knowledge of AWS security services like Shield Advanced, WAFv2, and Firewall Manager.
  • Familiarity with AWS services including Lambda, CDK, S3, CloudFormation, API Gateway, EC2, and others.
  • Proficiency in programming and scripting languages such as Python, Bash, Ansible, and Groovy.
  • Experience with tools like Git, Artifactory, ElasticSearch, and Jenkins.
  • Understanding of AWS Linux distributions and experience with AWS Security and Networking.
  • Experience using cloud security tools like Prisma Cloud.

Desirable Skills:

  • Experience with Jenkins and Ansible.
  • Understanding of platform services and their role in the software delivery lifecycle.
  • Experience with enterprise-scale software builds and integrations.
  • Familiarity with tools that support rapid development and delivery.
  • Experience deploying applications to the cloud using PaaS and SaaS solutions.
