Network Rail is expanding its Engineering and Asset Management division, focusing on railway structures within the Wales and Western region. We are in search of experienced structural or civil structural engineers who possess several years of post-qualification experience, regardless of their previous exposure to the rail industry.

Role Overview

As an Asset Engineer, your primary focus will be on risk management by effectively specifying and prioritizing maintenance, inspection, and renewal tasks to guarantee the reliability of railway operations and associated services.

Available Positions

We have several openings for Asset Engineers across various teams in our regional offices:

  • Asset Engineer for Wales Assessments Team
  • Asset Engineer for Western Assessments Team
  • Asset Engineer for Assurance and Compliance Team
  • Two Asset Engineers for Tunnels Examinations and Maintenance Team
  • Two Asset Engineers for Wales Examinations and Maintenance Team
  • Two Asset Engineers for Western Examinations and Maintenance Team

Key Responsibilities

  1. Plan and schedule examinations, inspections, and assessments of structural assets
  2. Identify and prioritize actions to rectify defects
  3. Perform risk assessments on assets
  4. Track asset condition and capability trend data
  5. Assist in the development of enhancement initiatives
  6. Collaborate with the structures team
  7. And additional responsibilities as required

Qualifications and Experience

  • HNC/HND or equivalent qualification in Civil or Structural Engineering
  • Relevant experience in structures or civil engineering
  • Familiarity with structures engineering policies and standards
  • Understanding of safety management systems
  • Progressing towards membership of a relevant professional institution

Desirable Additional Qualifications

  • Degree in a relevant discipline
  • Incorporated Engineer or Chartered Engineer status
  • Membership in a relevant professional institution
