We are seeking a dedicated Data Protection Officer to collaborate with senior leadership and key stakeholders, ensuring our organization comprehends and complies with Data Protection laws. This position will encompass all operational sectors, interfacing with various group entities to guarantee adherence to data protection mandates.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Acting as the designated DPO for the Information Commissioner's register of Data Controllers.
  • Engaging with the Information Commissioner's Office (or relevant Supervisory Authority) regarding inquiries and investigations.
  • Advising the controller or processor and their staff on their data protection responsibilities.
  • Overseeing compliance with data protection laws and PECR, including assigning responsibilities, reporting non-conformities/security vulnerabilities, and implementing corrective action plans.
  • Maintaining a register of data custodians for information sets and educating them on their duties (what constitutes data, its usage, and access rights). Developing data flow diagrams.
  • Monitoring systems and controls to ensure adherence to relevant data protection legislation and regulations.
  • Reporting to the board on the effectiveness of the organization's data protection measures and suggesting improvements.
  • Ensuring that Data Protection laws are understood by key stakeholders and the broader organization through guidance, training, and support to foster a culture of data protection.
  • Providing technical guidance and support on Subject Rights Requests, including subject access requests.
  • Serving as the primary contact for data security incidents and managing all data protection complaints and breaches.
  • Ensuring appropriate notifications are established for all data processing activities, both internal and external.
  • Establishing data processing agreements with third parties handling personal data.
  • Conducting regular data protection audits across all manual or digital processes, whether internal or outsourced.
  • Collaborating with IT to ensure ongoing data retention and cleansing practices are integrated into systems managing personal data in compliance with our Data / Information Retention policies.
  • Offering practical, high-quality, and timely advice across the organization to ensure compliance with DPA, GDPR, PECR, and emerging legislation.
  • Determining the policy for conducting Data Protection Impact Assessments and providing guidance and support for their execution.

Required Skills/Experience:

  • In-depth technical knowledge of data protection regulations, including the European General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), Data Protection Act 2018, and PECR.
  • Strong understanding and experience of how Data Protection aligns with business objectives.
  • Knowledge and application of compliance with UK & EU Data Protection & Privacy laws.
  • Experience in managing incidents and breaches.
  • Experience in developing, implementing, and monitoring rigorous policies.
  • Experience handling practical aspects of data protection compliance (e.g., preparing fair processing information, privacy notices, profiling, managing subject access requests, and regulatory notifications as necessary).
  • Experience conducting compliance reviews/audits in information management.
  • CIPP/E certification or equivalent.
