About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Senior or Principal Ecologist to join our Exeter office and contribute to the success of our ecology team. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for leading and delivering high-quality ecological work and assessments for a range of clients and projects.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage projects throughout their life-cycle, providing expert advice on ecology and biodiversity to clients, stakeholders, and project teams.
  • Plan, lead, and conduct ecological surveys, including environmental impact assessments and biodiversity net gain assessments.
  • Prepare a range of ecological reports and strategies, including Preliminary Ecological Appraisal (PEA) reports and Ecological Impact Assessments (EcIA).
  • Design and implement appropriate mitigation measures to enhance biodiversity and protect ecological features.
  • Support and mentor junior staff, sharing your expertise to develop their skills and knowledge.
  • Build and maintain strong client relationships, as well as with contractors and regulatory bodies.
About You
  • Hold a degree in Ecology or a related field.
  • Have at least 4-5 years of experience in ecological consultancy, with a proven track record in project management and client liaison.
  • Be experienced in advising clients on Biodiversity Net Gain and have a strong understanding of the DEFRA Statutory Biodiversity Metric.
  • Have excellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders.
  • Have a strong knowledge of ecology and wildlife protection in the UK legislative and planning system.
  • Be eligible for membership of a relevant professional body, such as the Chartered Institute of Ecology and Environmental Management (CIEEM).
