Job Summary:
The Francis Crick Institute is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Science Education Coordinator to join our Education and Community Outreach team. As a Science Education Coordinator, you will play a key role in delivering our strategy to engage and inspire the public, particularly in STEM fields.
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver Practical Science Workshops: Develop and deliver engaging and interactive science workshops for primary and secondary school children, focusing on themes related to the National Curriculum and current research at The Francis Crick Institute.
- Support Community Engagement: Assist with the delivery of community events and be an inspiring presence at local festivals, promoting The Francis Crick Institute's commitment to equality, diversity, and inclusion.
- Logistics and Behaviour Management: Assist with event logistics and behaviour management at other events, such as science shows.
Requirements:
- Qualifications: BSc or equivalent qualification in a STEM field.
- Experience: Experience in delivering practical science sessions to large groups of under 12s, preferably in a teaching or science outreach organization.
- Communication Skills: Excellent written and oral communication skills, suitable for a diverse audience, including young children.
- Computer Literacy: Proficiency in the Microsoft suite of packages.
- Physical Ability: Ability to ascend and descend several flights of stairs, as the role involves working in Camden schools without lifts.
- Security Clearance: Appointment to the post will be subject to an enhanced DBS check.
Desirable Skills:
- Knowledge of the English National Curriculum: In-depth knowledge of the English National Curriculum for EYFS, KS1, and KS2.
- Efficient Learning: Ability to quickly learn and confidently present hands-on science workshops through scripts and/or watch/assist/deliver methods.
- Safeguarding: Familiarity with legislation and good practice regarding safeguarding children.
