As a key player in our organization, you will oversee the comprehensive commercial management of a diverse portfolio characterized by numerous minor works projects, both planned and reactive. Your role will involve providing essential commercial insights, guidance, and strategic recommendations to project and program teams, ensuring effective management of project expenditures while minimizing commercial risks.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist in the preparation of applications for new and enhanced project funding, adhering to established investment protocols.
- Manage and report on financial aspects of your portfolio, ensuring compliance with the reporting framework, including Cost of Work Done, Forecast to Completion, and Current Contract Value.
- Monitor and report on all commercial dimensions of your projects, proactively identifying issues and proposing solutions.
- Support the procurement process for goods and materials, both pre and post-contract.
- Facilitate the negotiation of supply chain contracts through various market routes.
- Evaluate contractor activities to guide commercial decisions and assess supply chain contract valuations, participating in all relevant progress meetings.
- Assess and validate contractor payment applications, ensuring compliance with contractual obligations and site progress.
- Generate necessary commercial correspondence and contractual notices, maintaining accurate records for project close-out.
- Conclude final account settlements and reconcile project investments with internal authorities.
- Advise Project Managers on project matters, ensuring timely documentation for approval in line with delegated authority levels.
- Issue client invoices in accordance with funding agreements, including necessary supporting documentation.
- Identify and communicate potential commercial risks and claim events associated with your projects.
- Provide management information and analysis to support informed decision-making.
- Assess cost efficiency through analysis of completed projects.
- Support the estimating team with guidance on project scope and scale.
- Assist project teams in adhering to corporate governance standards.
Qualifications and Skills:
- Proven experience in managing investment projects from a commercial perspective.
- Relevant industry experience is essential.
- Strong understanding of contracts within the railway and construction sectors.
- Excellent negotiation capabilities.
Desirable Attributes:
- Degree-level education in a related field.
- Membership in a relevant professional institution or chartered status.
- Extensive experience in a generalist commercial environment.
- Awareness of current industry challenges.
