Position Overview:
As a Fencing Instructor at Barracudas Activity Day Camps, you will play a vital role in creating a fun and safe environment for children during our summer camp sessions. Your primary responsibility will be to engage children in fencing activities while ensuring their safety and enjoyment.
Working Hours:
08:30 – 17:00
Compensation:
Weekly salary ranges from £405.69 to £530.76, depending on age, experience, and qualifications.
Reporting Structure:
You will report to the Camp Senior Team, Area Manager, and Central Office.
Key Responsibilities:
As a Fencing Instructor, your duties will include:
- Setting up and maintaining activity areas to ensure they are inviting and suitable for children.
- Adhering to policies and procedures to guarantee a safe and enjoyable environment for all participants.
- Delivering engaging taster sessions in accordance with the Barracudas Fencing training received.
- Utilizing the Teambuilding manual to conduct a variety of exciting and age-appropriate sessions.
- Providing safety instructions and demonstrations, ensuring compliance with safety protocols.
- Actively supervising children throughout the day, including during breaks and lunch.
- Encouraging maximum participation from all children in the group.
- Collaborating with fellow staff members to enhance the overall camp experience.
- Completing necessary paperwork related to fencing sessions on a daily and weekly basis.
- Regularly checking fencing equipment for safety and functionality.
- Taking responsibility for the general welfare and safeguarding of all participants.
- Maintaining a tidy environment and ensuring all equipment is properly stored.
- Ensuring the safe use of all equipment provided for your sessions.
Qualifications:
To be considered for this role, candidates must meet the following requirements:
- Complete a FREE 1-day Fencing+ course affiliated with British Fencing prior to employment.
- Be at least 18 years old by the start of the contract.
- Be eligible to work in the UK.
- Provide satisfactory professional or academic references.
- Exhibit enthusiasm, care, and organizational skills, along with excellent communication abilities.
- Obtain an enhanced DBS check through Barracudas or possess an existing enhanced DBS on the Update Service.
- Participate in a Virtual Assessment Event if new to Barracudas.
- Complete annual online training.
- Attend an Induction Training Day before the first working season.
- Assist with the end-of-camp pack-up.
Additional Responsibilities:
In addition to the primary duties, you will also be expected to:
- Ensure compliance with all Health and Safety obligations by following instructions and demonstrating a proactive approach.
- Organize and deliver activities appropriate for the children in your care, based on your qualifications and knowledge.
- Encourage children to participate in new activities as per the scheduled program.
- Maintain awareness of children's whereabouts and promote safe behavior.
- Adhere to camp systems, including registration and collection procedures, while supporting colleagues in doing the same.
- Serve as a positive role model by promoting healthy lifestyles and good hygiene practices.
- Report any concerns regarding Child Protection to the Senior Team or designated personnel.
- Make reasonable adjustments to accommodate children with additional needs.
- Be prepared to assist with swimming sessions if required.
- Perform various tasks as needed based on the evolving role within the organization.
