Our organization possesses extensive expertise in evaluating the impact of various chemicals, including industrial substances, pesticides, and pharmaceuticals, on both human health and the environment. This knowledge is applied in specialized studies designed to tackle specific challenges and generate essential data for chemical risk assessments. Fera conducts a variety of metabolism and environmental fate studies, requiring the quantification of known chemicals or the identification of novel metabolites.

We are looking for a highly qualified and experienced Senior Expert in Metabolite Characterization to join our team. The successful candidate will collaborate closely with Study Directors and commercial clients to identify and characterize unknown metabolites, playing a crucial role in enhancing our understanding of chemical safety.

Working Hours: 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday (flexible hours between 7 am and 7 pm).

Key Responsibilities:

  • Employ advanced analytical methodologies, including high-resolution mass spectrometry (HRMS) and liquid chromatography coupled with tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS), to quantify target compounds and identify metabolites across various sample types such as soil, sediment, water, plant materials, and biological tissues.
  • Analyze and interpret mass spectrometry data, including detailed examination of HRMS results.
  • Collaborate with the Environmental Fate and Metabolism Team to design and implement metabolite identification studies.
  • Prepare comprehensive reports and presentations for internal stakeholders and commercial clients.
  • Stay updated on the latest advancements in mass spectrometry and analytical chemistry.
  • Provide mentorship and technical support to junior team members.

Qualifications:

  • BSc in Analytical Chemistry, Biochemistry, or a related discipline.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience utilizing advanced analytical techniques such as LC-MS/MS and HRMS (TOF, Orbitrap).
  • Proven experience in developing and validating mass spectrometry methods for quantification and/or identification of chemicals.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities and meticulous attention to detail.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience in analyzing HRMS data to identify and characterize unknown chemicals.
  • Familiarity with environmental fate and metabolism studies, including knowledge of biotic and abiotic metabolic pathways relevant to environmental samples.
  • Understanding of GLP quality systems.
  • Experience adhering to regulatory guidelines for chemical safety testing (e.g., OECD, EFSA, ICH/VICH).
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team environment.
  • Comfortable in client-facing roles.
