Precision Model Fabricator - Aerospace and Defence Sector

Are you skilled in model fabrication, tool creation, or CNC machining with a keen eye for detail? In this role, you will work with tailored customer designs to produce unique, low-volume models.

As a key member of the Design & Manufacturing team, the Precision Model Fabricator is tasked with creating high-value, one-off model components that meet stringent quality standards, timelines, and budget constraints. Your responsibilities will encompass CNC operations, hand-finishing surfaces to eliminate machine marks, blending component joints to ensure seamless connections, fitting precision parts, installing pressure tubing, and assembling models.

In the initial weeks of your role as a Precision Model Fabricator, you can anticipate:

  • Executing off-line CNC tasks utilizing Delcam Powermill and Powershape software
  • Conducting on-line programming with Heidenhein and operating CNC machinery
  • Performing various fitting activities, including hand-finishing surfaces, blending joint lines, fitting precision components, and assembling models
  • Meeting the minimum direct booking requirements by using the correct project codes for completed work
  • Effectively handing over work, ensuring that comprehensive notes and technical guidance are provided

To qualify for this Precision Model Fabricator position, you should possess a solid foundational understanding of Model Manufacturing Centre skills, including EDM wiring, plunge, turning, jig boring, grinding, CNC machining, and hand finishing. Additionally, you will need:

  • Experience in the efficient and effective fitting of components, sub-assemblies, and assemblies
  • A proficient background as a Model Fabricator (preferably)
  • Experience in the manufacture of tightly toleranced bespoke components
  • A collaborative spirit, with the ability to mentor and guide less experienced colleagues
