London, Greater London, United Kingdom NHS Resolution Full time

Position Type: Permanent

Salary Range: AfC 8a £53,755 to £60,054

Work Location: London / Leeds / Hybrid or Remote

We are seeking a highly skilled Finance Manager to enhance our expanding finance department. The ideal candidate will possess a wealth of experience in delivering superior financial reporting, forecasting, and analytical services for NHS Resolution's indemnity programs, coupled with robust financial planning and analysis (FP&A) and commercial expertise.

NHS Resolution is responsible for providing indemnity solutions for NHS secondary and general practice services, along with several arms-length organizations and independent healthcare providers. Our eleven schemes, governed by regulations, ensure indemnity coverage for both clinical and non-clinical negligence.

Your role will focus on producing high-quality financial planning and analysis to support the reserving process for NHS Resolution's indemnity schemes. Additionally, you will assist in the formulation and execution of financial policies and procedures to guarantee effective financial governance and management.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Overseeing the valuation of indemnity scheme provisions, which are pivotal to NHS Resolution. This entails managing, modeling, and analyzing intricate data sets, collaborating with actuarial consultants (including the Government Actuary's Department - GAD) and other specialists, and reporting the most accurate estimates of scheme liabilities.
  • Coordinating month-end and year-end financial activities.
  • Creating forecasts, full-year projections, and conducting ad hoc analyses to comprehend variances, trends, and risks, thereby facilitating informed decision-making.
  • Assisting in the preparation of NHS Resolution's Annual Report and Accounts (ARA) and the external audit process.
  • Supporting reserving cycle initiatives and taking ownership of actions arising from formal working groups.
  • Contributing to the maintenance of a controlled environment and model assurance.

The successful candidate will be a qualified accountant (ACCA/CIMA/ACA) with exceptional financial analysis, modeling, and interpretation capabilities, enabling NHS Resolution to assess historical performance and apply insights to forecasting activities, alongside recognizing trends that may influence future outcomes and key assumption modifications.

Excellent planning and organizational skills are essential, with a proven ability to deliver accurate results within tight deadlines in a dynamic and complex environment.

In return, you will be part of a dedicated and ambitious team, contributing to the strategic direction and focus of this distinctive organization.

About NHS Resolution:

NHS Resolution operates as an arm's length body (ALB) of the Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC), providing indemnity for the NHS against the risks associated with delivering healthcare services. We manage compensation claims, ensuring that compensation is fair and timely while addressing issues of exaggeration or fraud. We also offer expert guidance on managing concerns regarding the performance of healthcare professionals.

Furthermore, we resolve contractual disputes between primary care contractors and commissioners, functioning independently and transparently to minimize the necessity for court intervention. Our unique insights into the causes of claims, performance issues, and contractual disputes enable us to provide valuable feedback to the NHS to enhance safety and risk management.

Our Commitment:

NHS Resolution is dedicated to fostering a diverse and inclusive workplace, upholding our organizational PEER values:

Professional: We strive to deliver a high-quality, professional service, adapting flexibly to find effective solutions.

Expert: We leverage our unique skills and knowledge in all our endeavors.

Ethical: We are committed to honesty, integrity, and fairness in our actions.

Respectful: We treat all individuals with consideration and respect, promoting a collaborative and inclusive team environment.

What We Offer:

The NHS standard of 27 days of annual leave, increasing to 29 days after five years of service, plus eight public holidays. After ten years of service, this increases to 33 days plus eight public holidays.

Competitive pay that reflects your skills and experience in alignment with NHS pay scales.

Membership in one of the UK's premier pension schemes.

Investment in your professional development and training.

Flexible working arrangements, including the option for remote work.

Upon joining, you will gain access to a wide range of savings, discounts, and support services.
