About the Role

An established Mechanical and Electrical (M&E) contractor based in the UK is seeking an experienced and highly motivated Estimator to join their team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for compiling accurate, comprehensive, and competitive estimates for mechanical and electrical projects, with the ultimate goal of securing contracts.

Key Responsibilities
  • Identify and pursue tender enquiry opportunities to secure new business for the company.
  • Prepare and submit estimates with the aim of winning contracts, utilizing estimating and relevant technical software efficiently.
  • Perform take-offs from drawings and input data into estimates to generate bills of quantities as required.
  • Liaise with the Buyer regarding plant enquiries, materials, and subcontractor quotations to ensure seamless project execution.
  • Provide general estimating support and administration, including copying drawings/specifications and distributing information to stakeholders.
  • Conduct site visits or surveys to gather additional information and ensure that all estimates adhere to Health and Safety regulations.
  • Comply with the company's Management System requirements (ISO45001, ISO9001, and ISO14001) when compiling tenders and managing documents.
  • Assist with project accounting and management of variations to ensure accurate financial reporting.
  • Produce supporting drawings and develop Operation and Maintenance Manuals to support project delivery.
  • Participate in tender interviews when required to showcase the company's expertise and capabilities.
Additional Responsibilities
  • Support Engineers and Project Managers in contract delivery to ensure successful project outcomes.
  • Assist with designs as needed to ensure that estimates are accurate and comprehensive.
  • Engage in training, development, and workforce consultation activities to enhance skills and knowledge.
  • Perform other duties as required in a dynamic contracting environment to support business growth and development.
Person Specification

The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications and skills:

  • Qualifications in a mechanical, electrical, or estimating/engineering discipline.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills to effectively interact with stakeholders.
  • High proficiency in estimating software and MS Office packages, especially Excel, Word, and Project.
  • A flexible approach to work, with the ability to work occasionally out-of-hours and travel as necessary to support business needs.
