If you possess experience as a Healthcare Assistant (HCA) in a fast-paced setting such as Emergency Departments, Ambulatory Care, or Acute Assessment Units, this position may be an ideal fit for you.
Key Responsibilities
- Collaborate with the Accident & Emergency team to support clinical operations, ensuring efficient patient flow.
- Provide comprehensive assistance to both nursing and medical staff, addressing patients' clinical needs promptly.
- Function as an emergency department technician, facilitating the provision of urgent care within specialized areas.
- Aid medical and nursing personnel in the emergency department by performing various tasks.
- Conduct blood test analyses in the ED Point of Care Testing laboratory, adhering to established standard operating procedures (SOPs) and performing specialized tests as required.
- Contribute to the safe transfer of critically ill or injured patients within our healthcare network.
Main Duties
- Execute sample analyses on emergency department laboratory analysers in compliance with SOPs and health regulations.
- Prepare procedural equipment and assist nursing and medical staff in executing sterile clinical procedures.
- Support the nursing and medical teams in the preparation and delivery of care for patients requiring advanced levels of care.
- Ensure the maintenance of medical equipment to uphold safety standards for both the department and patients.
- Participate in audits and training regarding equipment usage and safety protocols.
Additional Responsibilities
- Develop a comprehensive understanding of the scientific principles underlying laboratory operations.
- Perform daily calibrations and quality control assessments on all analysers in accordance with SOPs.
- Communicate abnormal results to clinicians effectively.
- Maintain accurate records of refrigerator and freezer temperatures on a daily basis.
- Recognize the importance of precise communication regarding complex information while adhering to departmental quality control procedures.
- Engage in audits to identify areas for improvement in pre-examination and post-examination processes.
- Comply with local and national regulations concerning the secure and confidential handling of patient and laboratory information.
