Position Overview

The Powys CAMHS Educational Support Specialist role is designed to enhance the emotional health and well-being of students through a comprehensive Whole School Approach. This initiative aligns with the strategic objectives outlined in the Health and Care Strategy for Powys. The position necessitates effective communication and collaboration with various stakeholders, including educational institutions and external partners. As a member of a Pan-Powys team, travel will be required, with a focus on South Powys. Key Responsibilities

The primary responsibilities of this role include:

  • Providing guidance and support to relevant professionals.
  • Conducting school-based consultations utilizing a theoretical framework for cases where educational staff seek specialized knowledge regarding mental health and well-being.
  • Facilitating training sessions for professionals on emotional health and well-being topics, as well as participating in any required training to deliver evidence-based programs.
  • Delivering educational sessions to students in both primary and secondary schools focused on emotional health and well-being.
  • Implementing evidence-based therapeutic interventions when appropriate.
  • Collaborating effectively with other members of the Powys CAMHS Educational Support Team and CAMHS Services.
  • Engaging with key stakeholders to enhance outcomes for children and young people.
  • Assisting with referral processes through coordination with schools and other services.
  • Maintaining compliance with Powys Teaching Health Board and professional standards for record-keeping and data management.
  • Contributing to data collection efforts.
  • Supporting the Team Lead with assigned responsibilities.
  • As this is a Pan-Powys position, travel will be necessary.

Qualifications and Knowledge

Essential

  • Registered Healthcare Professional, such as a Registered Mental Health Nurse, Registered Nurse in Learning Disabilities, Registered Practitioner Psychologist, or a Practitioner with a relevant counseling qualification at least at the PG Dip level.
  • Additional training in one or more evidence-based psychological therapies relevant to the educational context or children's mental health.
  • Evidence of Continuous Professional Development.
  • Professional qualifications and skills that complement the multidisciplinary team.
  • Understanding of the legislation governing service delivery, including the Mental Health (Wales) Measure 2010.
  • Knowledge of safeguarding legislation and procedures for children, young people, and vulnerable adults.
  • Demonstrated understanding of the normative, contextual, and developmental aspects of children's mental health issues.
  • Sound clinical knowledge of current evidence-based practices in the field.
  • Familiarity with direct and indirect psychological interventions.

Experience

Essential

  • Experience in assessing and delivering psychological interventions to children, young people, and their families.
  • Proven track record of meeting specified service targets.
  • Ability to manage a caseload independently and effectively.
  • Experience working within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Experience in leading change initiatives or service development.

Skills
