Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Engineer – Metrology (Electrical Calibration) to join our team at BAE Systems (New). As a key member of our Calibration department, you will be responsible for performing high-end calibrations and repairs on a wide variety of electrical test, measurement, and diagnostic equipment (TMDE).

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform high-end calibrations and repairs on TMDE, ensuring accuracy and precision in measurements.
  • Deliver on-the-job training and experiential learning to team members and apprentices/graduates, promoting knowledge sharing and skill development.
  • Deputize for the ICS Electrical team leader, overseeing people and resource management, workflow management, and workload signoff.
  • Develop and approve calibration procedures and measurement uncertainty budgets, ensuring compliance with industry standards.
  • Participate in quality audits, including UKAS/ISO 17025, and achieve UKAS signatory status for Electrical Calibration.
  • Communicate effectively with technical stakeholders on instrumentation and calibration topics, providing consultation on new measurement technologies.

Requirements:

  • Experience working in a precision Electrical Calibration/metrology laboratory environment.
  • Understanding of quality systems and standards (ISO 17025/ISO 9001).
  • Relevant academic qualification (STEM Degree, HNC/HND or equivalent).
  • Existing UKAS signatory status for Electrical Calibration.
  • Experience in creating measurement uncertainty budgets to ISO 17025 level.
  • Experience in using automation software (Fluke Metcal, Met/Track, Met/Teams, Labview).
  • Experience in Mechanical, Dimensional, Temperature, and other engineering calibrations.

About the Team:

The Calibration department supports 30,000 pieces of equipment per year, ranging from traditional analogue equipment to state-of-the-art digital systems. ICS Electrical focuses on the calibration, maintenance, and repair of TMDE capable of making AC/DC voltage, current, resistance, inductance, capacitance, and time/frequency measurements. Our team consists of around 8+ members, working alongside other teams within the Calibration department, comprising 50+ team members.
