Position Overview:
Empowering Learning is seeking a dedicated and experienced Special Needs Support Assistant to join our team. This role involves working with students who have significant learning challenges, specifically within a supportive educational environment.

Key Responsibilities:
- Support students with severe learning difficulties in a classroom setting.
- Assist in the educational development of children aged 9-13 years, focusing on those with profound multiple learning difficulties (PMLD).
- Collaborate with teaching staff to provide tailored support to students with diverse needs.
- Facilitate communication for non-verbal students using alternative methods such as symbols or signing systems.
- Implement strategies to enhance student engagement and participation in learning activities.

Essential Qualifications:
- A minimum of 1 year of experience in a similar role, specifically with SLD students.
- Familiarity with special educational needs (SEND) and personal care requirements.
- Proficiency in numeracy and literacy to support students effectively.

Desirable Skills:
- Experience with communication aids such as PECS or Makaton.
- Ability to adapt teaching methods to meet the individual needs of students.

Personal Attributes:
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively with a team.
- A compassionate and patient approach to supporting students with learning difficulties.
- Awareness of cultural diversity and its impact on learning.
