Design Manager Job Description

About the Role:

We are seeking an experienced Design Manager to join our team in Central London. As a Design Manager, you will be responsible for providing design and technical support for construction projects, including large-scale interior fit-outs and complex refurbishments valued up to £20m.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Manage the design resource and plan workload, ensuring the team's workload is effectively managed.
  2. Develop and implement design strategies to consistently improve and exceed client expectations.
  3. Build and maintain strong relationships with clients and project management teams.
  4. Develop and manage design programmes and design information flow, ensuring seamless integration into the overall project programme.
  5. Review project design inputs, processes, and outputs, ensuring compliance with contract requirements and implementing corrective actions as needed.
  6. Research current trends, materials, and design ideas to offer alternative solutions and challenge conventional thinking.
  7. Manage design change controls, ensuring changes are recorded and communicated to relevant team members and stakeholders.
  8. Collaborate with project teams, clients, and consultants to deliver high-quality design solutions.
  9. Ensure adherence to HSQE standards, operating processes, company policies, and legislative requirements.
  10. Ensure compliance with CDM regulations and manage design relationships between the company, clients, design consultants, and statutory bodies.

Requirements:

To be successful in this role, you will need to have relevant design qualifications, a thorough understanding of current design methods, techniques, and practices, and the ability to influence and manage resources, clients, and other disciplines. You will also need to demonstrate strong programme and cost management skills.
