Position Overview

Are you adept at scrutinizing extensive data sets to make informed decisions? Do you aspire to oversee some of the most significant statutory investigations within the charity sector? Are you committed to combating misconduct and mismanagement in charitable organizations?

As a Senior Investigator, you will play a crucial role in the Investigations Team, leading statutory inquiries and overseeing investigations conducted by your colleagues. You will manage the most intricate and high-stakes inquiries, often reporting directly to senior leadership on strategic direction and case management.

Your responsibilities will include ensuring that regulatory issues are addressed efficiently and effectively, adhering to operational guidelines while utilizing the Commission's legal powers to safeguard charities and their assets from potential risks.

In addition to casework, you will mentor and guide fellow investigators, providing them with strategic advice and support regarding legal powers and case strategies. You will also contribute to the development of investigative policies and assist senior management in achieving the Directorate's objectives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Facilitate the timely and effective execution of assessments, inquiries, and follow-up casework, ensuring compliance with the Commission's risk framework.
  • Gather, analyze, and determine the appropriate sharing of evidence and intelligence, utilizing various sources including open data, on-site reviews, and interviews.
  • Exhibit exemplary standards in drafting and maintaining case records.
  • Provide testimony in court or at the Charity Tribunal when required.
  • Oversee the daily operational management of investigative casework conducted by junior staff, ensuring adherence to standards and providing strategic guidance.
  • Identify and develop relevant policy issues to enhance investigative practices and lead related projects as necessary.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to establish effective working relationships with government entities, law enforcement, and regulatory bodies.

Candidate Profile

  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with strong presentation abilities.
  • Confidence to support and challenge ideas constructively to influence outcomes.
  • Proficient in gathering information from diverse internal and external sources.
  • Strong analytical capabilities and sound judgment to assess complex information.
  • Ability to manage a personal caseload while ensuring junior team members meet established standards and deadlines.
  • Demonstrated experience in conducting investigations or regulatory casework, particularly involving investigative techniques.

Experience Requirements

  • Proven track record in investigations, including criminal or civil cases.
  • Experience in evidential information gathering and analysis, with a focus on making informed decisions.
  • Leadership experience in investigative settings.
  • Operational knowledge of risk management principles and regulatory frameworks within the charity sector or similar environments.
