Join Burman Recruitment in our search for a skilled Category Manager/Project Buyer to develop and implement procurement strategies for the Estates division of a University in Cambridge.

This is a dynamic role that requires a strong analytical mindset and experience in managing high-value procurement projects. The successful candidate will contribute to the Estates Management Strategy and be involved in significant procurement projects, ensuring compliance with public contracts legislation.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop and execute procurement strategies to support University objectives.
  • Manage high-value procurement projects (over £10m) from initial sourcing to contract mobilization.
  • Oversee the drafting and management of tender documents and contractual agreements to ensure best value proposals.
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to optimize service delivery and cost-efficiency.
  • Ensure compliance with financial regulations and public procurement legislation.
  • Lead procurement-led transformation programs and cost-reduction initiatives.
  • Provide expertise and guidance on procurement practices to non-specialists within the University.
Essential Qualifications & Experience:
  • Extensive procurement experience within a construction or facilities management environment.
  • Must have managed tier 1 contracts.
  • Familiarity with modern procurement techniques, value for money, and whole-life costing.
  • Experience managing procurement projects exceeding £10m.
  • Strong analytical skills and experience using e-tendering systems.
  • Member of the Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply (CIPS), qualified to level 4 or above.
