Position Overview:
The role involves facilitating a seamless flow of materials by efficiently packing and managing shipping documentation for all finished goods and vendor returns. It is crucial to ensure that items are prepared for dispatch in accordance with shipping deadlines. Engage proactively in initiatives aimed at continuous improvement to rectify any packing or shipping discrepancies. As a Logistics and Shipping Coordinator, you will be actively involved in this hands-on position, collaborating with the production team while maintaining a positive attitude and a focus on quality.
Working Schedule: Monday to Thursday 7:30 AM – 4:30 PM and Friday 7:30 AM – 12:30 PM
Key Qualifications:
· Attention to detail and the ability to adhere to structured processes, following established work protocols and workflows.
· Effective communication skills to collaborate with Production, Distribution, and Quality Assurance teams.
· A proactive mindset towards continuous improvement efforts.
· Flexibility in handling work requests, demonstrating a willingness to go above and beyond to complete tasks.
· Proficiency in computer systems, with the capability to learn and utilize ERP software (e.g., AX 2012 or D365) for inventory management.
· Previous experience in a logistics or warehouse environment is advantageous.
· Strong customer focus, prioritizing the meeting of shipping deadlines.

Thorlabs is a leading global company in optical technologies, specializing in the design and production of a diverse range of innovative photonics products. Our products are utilized in both manufacturing and research, spanning applications from fiber optics to piezo motors. We set the benchmark for optics laboratories worldwide, with 22 facilities across 9 countries. Our Ely location is dedicated to the Motion Control and Optical Tables product line.
Work Environment:
The position is based in a state-of-the-art facility designed for optimal workflow and efficiency.
Responsibilities:
· Manage the handling and packing of finished products in accordance with standard operating procedures and health and safety regulations.
· Ensure accurate selection of packing materials and supplementary items.
· Label packages correctly with item names and serial numbers.
· Maintain a consistent flow of products following FIFO (First In, First Out) principles.
· Process courier bookings and shipping documentation accurately, including generating delivery notes and directing packages to appropriate shipping locations.
· Participate in continuous improvement initiatives and team meetings to assess performance metrics.
· Assist with inventory counts as necessary.
· Keep the distribution area organized and clean, adhering to 5S principles.
Compensation and Benefits:
The position offers a competitive hourly wage of £12.65, along with a comprehensive benefits package that includes pension contributions, healthcare, 25 days of annual leave plus public holidays.
