Lead Teaching Assistant Opportunity

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Lead Teaching Assistant to join our team at a vibrant and inclusive secondary school in Portsmouth. This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated individual to step into a leadership role within the support staff, helping to coordinate and enhance the support provided to students.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead and manage a team of teaching assistants, providing guidance, mentoring, and support to ensure high-quality support for students across the school.
  • Work closely with teachers to ensure that lesson plans and learning activities are effectively adapted to meet the needs of students with additional learning requirements.
  • Coordinate the deployment of teaching assistants, ensuring that support is allocated appropriately across different classrooms and subjects.
  • Provide in-class support, working directly with students to help them engage with learning activities, particularly those with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND).
  • Monitor and assess the progress of students, working with the SENCO and teachers to implement targeted interventions where needed.
  • Support the development of personalised learning plans, ensuring that students' needs are met, and helping to review and adapt these plans regularly.
  • Facilitate professional development for the teaching assistant team by organising training sessions and providing feedback to ensure continuous improvement.
  • Act as a key point of contact for teachers, parents, and external agencies regarding student support and progress.
Requirements:
  • Previous experience in a lead or senior teaching assistant role, with a strong understanding of supporting students with SEND and other learning needs.
  • Excellent leadership and organisational skills, with the ability to manage a team and coordinate support across the school.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, enabling effective partnership with teaching staff, parents, and external agencies.
  • A proactive approach to problem-solving, with the ability to adapt to the needs of students and ensure they receive the appropriate support.
  • Commitment to professional development, both for yourself and your team, ensuring that students benefit from the most up-to-date practices and strategies.
