The successful candidate will provide clinical leadership, ensuring the delivery of safe and high-quality patient care through effective monitoring and implementation of established standards and evidence-based practices.

The role includes direct management responsibilities and the facilitation of learning and development within the nursing team.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Overseeing the preceptorship of newly qualified staff and the mentorship of nursing students and healthcare support workers.
  • Implementing the Trust's staff 'Compact' to promote expected behaviors and standards across the organization.

Key Responsibilities

Clinical Leadership

  • Assume responsibility for the clinical direction of the elective surgery ward.
  • Conduct comprehensive nursing assessments and deliver high standards of care based on best practices.
  • Ensure compliance with NMC Guidelines and Trust Policies.
  • Foster teamwork among nursing and multidisciplinary teams to achieve high standards of care.
  • Utilize audit tools to monitor compliance with established standards.

Managerial Duties

  • Assist in reviewing staffing needs and support recruitment and retention strategies.
  • Participate in strategic planning and modernization initiatives within the service.
  • Manage financial resources effectively and ensure adequate staffing levels for safe care delivery.
  • Lead investigations into complaints and clinical incidents, providing feedback to staff as necessary.

Education and Training

  • Conduct annual reviews of educational needs for the ward team and develop training plans.
  • Ensure all staff complete mandatory training and maintain records of attendance.
  • Create a supportive learning environment that encourages professional development.

Professional Standards

  • Act as an ambassador for the clinical environment and uphold a professional image of nursing.
  • Ensure all qualified staff maintain current registration in accordance with Trust Policy.

Qualifications and Experience

Essential

  • Registered General Nurse with relevant professional qualifications.
  • Teaching/Leadership qualification and evidence of continuous professional development.
  • Minimum of 2 years' experience in an acute clinical setting at band 6.
  • Demonstrated leadership and change management skills.

Desirable

  • Critical Care qualification.
