About the Role
The successful candidate will provide clinical leadership, ensuring the delivery of safe and high-quality patient care through effective monitoring and implementation of established standards and evidence-based practices.
The role includes direct management responsibilities and the facilitation of learning and development within the nursing team.
Key responsibilities include:
- Overseeing the preceptorship of newly qualified staff and the mentorship of nursing students and healthcare support workers.
- Implementing the Trust's staff 'Compact' to promote expected behaviors and standards across the organization.

Key Responsibilities
Clinical Leadership
- Assume responsibility for the clinical direction of the elective surgery ward.
- Conduct comprehensive nursing assessments and deliver high standards of care based on best practices.
- Ensure compliance with NMC Guidelines and Trust Policies.
- Foster teamwork among nursing and multidisciplinary teams to achieve high standards of care.
- Utilize audit tools to monitor compliance with established standards.
Managerial Duties
- Assist in reviewing staffing needs and support recruitment and retention strategies.
- Participate in strategic planning and modernization initiatives within the service.
- Manage financial resources effectively and ensure adequate staffing levels for safe care delivery.
- Lead investigations into complaints and clinical incidents, providing feedback to staff as necessary.
Education and Training
- Conduct annual reviews of educational needs for the ward team and develop training plans.
- Ensure all staff complete mandatory training and maintain records of attendance.
- Create a supportive learning environment that encourages professional development.
Professional Standards
- Act as an ambassador for the clinical environment and uphold a professional image of nursing.
- Ensure all qualified staff maintain current registration in accordance with Trust Policy.
Qualifications and Experience
Essential
- Registered General Nurse with relevant professional qualifications.
- Teaching/Leadership qualification and evidence of continuous professional development.
- Minimum of 2 years' experience in an acute clinical setting at band 6.
- Demonstrated leadership and change management skills.
Desirable
- Critical Care qualification.
