This position presents a unique opportunity for a Behavioral Support Consultant to become a vital member of the Enhanced Social Care Support Team, a well-established multidisciplinary group comprising Social Workers, Behavioral Support Consultants, and Occupational Therapists. The role will adhere to the principles of Positive Behavioral Support, catering to both children and adults across diverse environments.

The focus of this role is to deliver expert, specialized knowledge to assist individuals with Learning Disabilities and/or Autism, as well as those who support them, both within and beyond the county. The support provided will be rooted in evidence-based practices, collaborating with professionals to ensure the development, maintenance, and dissemination of exemplary behavioral standards across services in both public and private sectors.

This role is highly dynamic, requiring the ability to work collaboratively within a team while also managing an individual caseload. Key responsibilities will encompass:

  • Conducting Functional Behavioral Assessments
  • Crafting Positive Behavioral Support plans that are functionally oriented
  • Preparing 'service specification' reports that outline the support and environmental requirements of individuals

Additional Responsibilities Include...

  • Offering specialized assistance to individuals with Learning Disabilities and Autism, and their support networks across various settings
  • Participating in team clinical supervision and ensuring knowledge sharing through team meetings and digital platforms
  • Effectively managing complex cases while providing behavioral guidance, support, and expert advice to social care staff and other professionals to meet the behavioral needs of individuals
  • Drafting comprehensive reports that reflect individual needs using PBS principles to provide person-centered recommendations that enhance quality of life outcomes, ensuring collaborative and co-produced reports whenever feasible
  • Promoting individual choice and empowerment through early intervention and prevention strategies, fostering independence, and applying behavioral expertise for individuals exhibiting complex challenging behaviors
  • Collaborating with stakeholders, partners, and voluntary organizations to ensure a multidisciplinary approach to service delivery
  • Ensuring adherence to relevant legislation, policies, and guidelines regarding safe and effective working practices to appropriately address risks
  • Assisting providers in delivering person-centered and tailored support, which may include training
  • Guaranteeing consistency and effectiveness in the implementation of behavioral support plans as agreed upon by the multidisciplinary network, with a focus on measurable outcomes
  • Working in partnership with others to identify and address individual needs and collaboratively develop services involving individuals, families, social care staff, healthcare professionals, housing teams, education, and other providers
  • Maintaining high-quality data and records to ensure timely, accurate, and complete information that meets all statutory recording requirements

Qualifications and Skills Required...

  • A solid foundation of knowledge and experience with adults and children in the field of Learning Disabilities and/or Autism, including a degree in Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities or a related field, such as Psychology, along with a professional qualification in Behavioral Management and evidence of ongoing professional development
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to build rapport and engage with diverse groups
  • Ability to cultivate strong relationships with partners and other agencies, such as Education and local community organizations, to achieve shared objectives and provide a supportive framework for individuals
  • Strong decision-making capabilities
  • A behavioral support approach that prioritizes enhancing the quality of life for individuals, minimizing restrictive practices, and fostering skills and independence
  • Experience in a social care environment, demonstrating the ability to navigate challenging social and familial situations
  • Proven experience managing complex caseloads grounded in evidence-based practices
  • Strong organizational skills, with the ability to adapt to role demands and manage schedules effectively

This role necessitates travel across Essex and beyond. A valid driving license and access to a vehicle, or the ability to meet mobility requirements through alternative means, is essential.
