What is a Manufacturing Apprentice?

Production and manufacturing areas can be challenging, fast-paced, and highly demanding, requiring employees to meet deadlines and produce high-quality work. Manufacturing Apprentices are an integral part of the Manufacturing Services Division, filling various roles in assembly, machining, and maintenance based on individual skills and interests.

What Will I Do?

The first year will be spent in full-time training at Gloucestershire Engineering Training (GET), a technical facility in Gloucester. You will learn the fundamental practical and theoretical principles of engineering and how to perform engineering operations. 20% of your time will be spent in the classroom, and 80% will be hands-on training in the workshop, using machines, and applying theory.

This apprenticeship enables apprentices to gain experience in supporting the production of machined parts that feed into our assembly areas and for other customers. Some of the tasks include:

  • Operating, setting, and programming various CNC machinery and programs
  • Performing milling, turning, and grinding techniques
  • Using Computer-Aided Design (CAD)
  • Using verniers, micrometers, and other measuring equipment
What Skills and Qualifications Do I Need?

Applicants must have:

  • GCSEs at a minimum of Grade 4 or C, including Maths, English, and Science. If you don't meet these grades, we consider the whole application, and you might have the practical skills we're looking for
  • Other relevant subjects, such as Product Design or Engineering, would be an advantage. Please note that if you have PEOs or BTECs in Engineering, you may be required to repeat certain modules. Please ensure your CV is up to date with details of qualifications you are currently studying towards, including full titles and levels. You can include predicted grades if you have not completed your studies yet.
  • Relevant work experience done through school or college would be beneficial, although it's not essential
  • A genuine interest, motivation, and enthusiasm to undertake a practical, hands-on role in a manufacturing and engineering environment
  • The ability to work independently
Where Will I Be Working?

This role is based across three of our Gloucestershire sites in Stonehouse, Woodchester, and Wotton-Under-Edge. You will need the ability to travel independently to college and work.

Benefits

When you join Renishaw, we commit to your future career. We believe in developing our people's skills and promoting them internally. We offer a benefits package that's highly desirable, including a 9% non-contributory pension, discretionary annual bonus, *subsidized onsite restaurants and *coffee shops, free parking, *car sharing scheme, and *24-hour fitness centers. (*not available at our Castle Donington, Exeter, York & Edinburgh sites).

We also want to promote a healthy work-life balance as much as possible, so we have introduced a hybrid working policy, which allows for a combination of home and office-based working depending on the nature of your role. We also offer a variable working program, 25 days holiday plus bank holidays, Life Assurance policy of 12 times annual salary, Cycle to Work scheme, enhanced maternity pay subject to qualifying criteria, Health Cash Plan, the option to join BUPA Renishaw Health Trust, and an Employee Assistance Program for employees and family.
