Assistant Professor of African American Theatre

The Department of Visual and Performing Arts at Norfolk State University is in search of an enthusiastic and qualified individual to fill the role of tenure-track full-time Assistant Professor specializing in African American Theatre and Performance.
Key Responsibilities:- Teach courses in Acting, Introduction to Theatre, and other pertinent subjects.
- Oversee the Drama & Theatre Division as the Program Coordinator.
- Engage in ongoing professional development, research, and creative endeavors.
- Participate in university service and committee responsibilities.
- Mentor and guide a diverse student body.
- Exemplify professionalism and leadership for both students and faculty.
- M.F.A. in Acting, Performance, or a closely related discipline.
- A minimum of 5 years of teaching experience, with at least 3 years at the assistant professor level.
- 5 years of professional acting experience, particularly in African American theatrical productions.
- Expertise or certification in voice and/or movement techniques for actors.
- Experience in academic program evaluation within higher education.
- Strong leadership capabilities and personnel management experience.
- Familiarity with budgeting and procurement processes.
- Teaching philosophy centered on Stanislavski techniques.
- Active membership in relevant professional unions and organizations.
- Knowledge of NAST Accreditation processes.
- Experience in securing grants.
