About the Role

We are seeking an experienced and skilled Clinical Leader to join our team at Avon and Wiltshire Mental Health Partnership NHS Trust. As a Clinical Leader, you will be responsible for delivering operational management, clinical leadership, and supervision to designated teams of staff within the Unit.

Key Responsibilities
  • Act as a Clinical Leader with continuing clinical responsibility for designated clinical areas, ensuring high-quality evidence-based nursing assessment, care planning, interventions, and evaluations for patients.
  • Contribute to the professional development and clinical supervision of team members, maintaining and developing quality standards of practice in accordance with professional guidelines and Trust policies.
  • Enable service users by providing accurate and appropriate information, offering choices, and involving them in the care process.
  • Lead by example, motivating and empowering others, promoting positive attitudes and mutual understanding.
  • Pursue legitimate patient concerns, resolving problems in an efficient and effective manner.
  • Ensure all staff have access to and are familiar with clinical and other policies and procedures operational within the Trust.
  • Contribute to a culture of learning within designated clinical areas, promoting continuing professional development and evidence-based practice.
Requirements
  • RN3: Mental Health Nurse, Level 1.
  • Clear record of ongoing continuing professional development.
  • Substantial experience and Band 6 level.
  • Evidence of ability to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate resident care and act accordingly if untoward changes occur.
  • Keeping accurate, relevant records.
  • Experience of running medication rounds, safe administration, and disposal of drugs.
  • Practical experience of providing high-quality care, exceeding expectations.
  • Able to evidence thorough best practice assessment of service users' needs, demonstrating appropriate plans for any risks posed.
  • Significant experience of effectively coordinating and leading shifts.
  • Experienced in preventing and managing violence and aggression, using effective de-escalation, control, and restraint techniques.
  • Evidence of excellent written and verbal communication skills, particularly relating to adults with acute mental health issues and unpredictable behaviors.
  • Able to undertake clinical supervision, appraisals, mentorship, and teaching.
  • Significant relevant experience as a clinician, able to undertake thorough risk assessment, assess, plan, and evaluate service user care.
  • Demonstrate effective leadership, motivation, initiative, change management, and management skills in a clinical area.
  • In-depth knowledge of the Mental Health Act 1983.
  • Knowledge of the NMC's 'The Code': Standards of Conduct, Performance, and Ethics for Nurses and Midwives.
  • Risk assessment and management.
  • Evidence of current development in mental health care and nursing practice.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality.
  • Able to assess, plan treatment for, and review nursing care needs.
  • Motivated to provide the highest standard in a changing service.
  • Awareness and understanding of Health and Safety issues.
  • Understands the importance of equal opportunity.
  • Willingness to undertake further training to relevant clinical areas.
  • Ability to recognize and manage stress in the workplace.
  • Significant demonstrable experience of leading teams in the effective delivery of care.
  • Clear understanding of the principles of managing significant numbers of staff and tight financial budgets.
  • Experience of managing sickness and attendance in staff, appraisals, and appointment processes.
