Position Overview
The Great Western Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is pleased to announce an opening for a Medical Oncology Specialist within our esteemed Cancer Services department.
We pride ourselves on fostering a welcoming environment and encourage prospective candidates to reach out for inquiries or to arrange a visit. Our team is also eager to discuss various sub-specialty interests that could be integrated into a potential job plan.
This role is offered as a fixed-term contract, with the possibility of transitioning to a permanent position. The successful candidate will be based at the Great Western Hospital.
Shortlisted applicants will have the opportunity to visit the Trust and engage with senior staff and management teams, with further details provided post-shortlisting.
Key Responsibilities
This newly created position aims to enhance the support and management of patients with malignancies. The selected candidate will join a dedicated team of 10 oncology professionals, including consultants, SAS doctors, and specialist trainees. You will become an integral part of a well-established, collaborative team, contributing to ongoing improvements in patient care.
Your responsibilities will encompass participation in weekly multidisciplinary team meetings, outpatient clinics, and contributions to the acute oncology service.
Oncology patients are supported by robust multidisciplinary teams, with clinical oncology backing from partner institutions. The acute oncology service operates an in-reach program to assist inpatients, where the appointed candidate will play a crucial role in shaping service delivery. Each tumor site is supported by experienced clinical nurse specialists, some of whom lead treatment monitoring clinics and workshops.
