As a Cost Engineer, you will be part of a developing cost engineering function, responsible for driving improvement ideas throughout the product life cycle, advising and implementing best practices in the cost engineering team, as well as collaborating with commercial, design, and procurement functions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop in-depth understanding of various processes associated with complex commodities, with expertise in several process types and commodities.
  • Deliver robust detailed and directional Should Costs (estimates) to support informed decision-making.
  • Participate in the process of supplier selection and supplier strategy planning to ensure optimal partnerships.
  • Support the development of cost models by commodity group suitable for anticipated production volumes.
  • Generate bespoke cost models to suit supplier processes from scratch, leveraging technical expertise.
  • Identify and drive material/process/layout improvements to be promoted as product cost reduction ideas, collaborating with cross-functional teams.
  • Identify and discuss cost gaps with suppliers, taking the lead in negotiating cost reduction ideas or gaps to expectation with the use of supporting market data.
  • Develop process improvements within the cost engineering, procurement, and engineering functions to support a cohesive team working environment, engaging stakeholders to drive improvement.

Requirements and Qualifications

  • Strong knowledge of low- and high-volume manufacturing processes and associated commercial cost drivers.
  • Experience in developing electrical and mechanical commodities alike, with a focus on cost optimization.
  • Able to review and understand technical proposals, technical drawings, and specifications, with the ability to translate these to non-technical staff.
  • Utilize CAD modeling software (Siemens Teamcenter or similar) to support identifying cost drivers.
  • Experience in using cost modeling software to create bottom-up should costs.
  • Tooling cost driver knowledge is essential.
  • Ability to identify gaps in know-how, willing to learn and develop knowledge of new commodities.
  • Capable of developing and sharing cost engineering best practice methods with stakeholders.
  • Able to manage multiple projects, prioritizing tasks and meeting deadlines.
  • A good understanding of cross-functional roles within the procurement/supply chain structure would be beneficial.
  • The ability to demonstrate cross-functional teamwork is critical.
  • Analysing and interpreting numerical data and reaching sound judgments and recommendations.
  • Ability to work under own initiative and under pressure, in a controlled manner.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Able to present logical findings to various stakeholders, using Microsoft Excel and office skills.
  • Supplier visits are part of the role, so a clean driving license is essential.

Working Arrangements

Cedar offers a hybrid working arrangement, with 2 days on-site in our Oxfordshire offices, allowing for flexibility and work-life balance.
